CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
Coronary heart disease is the major cause of deaths and cases of illness in humans. Although precautions have been done such as setting food (diet), lower cholesterol and weight maintenance, diabetes and hypertension, coronary heart disease remains a major health problem. The main problem in coronary heart disease is coronary atherosclerosis. It is a progressive disease that occurs gradually thickening of the walls of the coronary arteries. Coronary atherosclerosis is considered a passive process because the majority of cholesterol is produced by the walls of the arteries (Yuet Wai Kan, 2000).
Coronary heart disease is the number one killer in developed countries and can also occur in developing countries. Duina Health Organization (WHO) has raised the fact that coronary heart disease (CHD) is a modern epidemic and can not be avoided by the aging factor. It is estimated that if the incidence of CHD reaches zero, it can increase the life expectancy of 3 to 9% (Shivaramakrishna. 2010).
Picture above case shows the importance of this disease that has not got the attention of the magnitude of a person's risk, disability, loss of employment, and at the time of admission. In the decade now since the last clinical conference by the New York Heart Association or the New York health association stated this subject, from a number of workshops has issued important new information about the disease, prevention and control. This is stated clearly in the magnitude of clinical change of CHD and the many factors that may be relevant, the large number of patients enrolled, the group that will be included in all cases of CHD that occurs in the general population with obvious characteristics.
